It’s NOT Your Fault… it’s the CONTRACTOR Model
In the space of coaching, speaking, and expert based businesses, there's basically one main model when it comes to hiring & managing people…
CONTRACTORS.
We mostly hire Part-Time Contractors that typically have other clients.
Why do we do this?
Well, let's face it, you probably can't afford a Full-Time Employees with Workman's Comp, Health Insurance, Social Security, Benefits, etc.
You’d love to be able to offer those perks but that can often add an extra 20-30% to your overhead costs. And it’s simply not feasible for most Business Owners.
That could be the difference in being profitable or not, in being able to stay in business or going under.
So we resort to the CONTRACTOR MODEL, hiring 1099 Contractors, who often have several other clients (2, 3 or sometimes 10 other clients)
And now, you officially have DISTRACTED Support…
Even though they’re GOOD PEOPLE with (usually) the best of intentions, they can’t possibly give you what you need and deserve…
So you’re left with more questions to answer, reviewing, delegating, polishing, confirming, explaining, etc to make sure everything is getting done...
All the back-end stuff, logistics, details…
All roads lead to you... everyone reports to you and if you stop, it all falls apart.
This happens to millions of business owners.
Before I dive into that more, let me tell you a quick story of why I became so passionate about helping CEOs like you hire & manage a loyal, FULL TIME, trustworthy team…
I Had This Distracted Support Model Too.. Everything Was Falling on My Shoulders
What I didn't realize was that one of my Team Members was becoming increasingly unhappy.
I didn't realize this because I was so busy…
Speaking on stage, coaching, strategic planning, serving clients.
And I didn't have the right management SYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES to catch things and handle them when they’re small.
You wanna catch things when they’re small because if you don't…
It Can Blow Up In Your Face..
In A Really BIG, Sometimes Ugly Way (Ask Me How I Know?!)
That's exactly what happened to me...
So my husband Mark & I were rockin one of the biggest events of the year on stage and it turns out my unhappy Team Member was in the green room literally…
RALLYING OUR ENTIRE TEAM AGAINST US!
Her unhappiness became contagious and suddenly…
Everyone had an issue.
About a week later, they called us in for a Zoom call. The whole team had a list of demands, grievances, hurt feelings and a lot of misunderstandings.
And it blew up. HARD.
We lost people.
We had to increase pay for some people…
and sadly fire some people.
We had to start all over again.
It hurts to see something you love and worked so hard for…
Crumble to pieces.
So I'm sharing this (raw & real) story because maybe you’ve dealt with something similar… If so, I want to reassure you, YOU’RE NOT ALONE.
At first, I was shocked.
I felt blindsided.
Then I got really angry.
But as I was reflecting…
I started beating myself up and SELF-DOUBT started creeping in…
-
What did I do wrong?
-
What did I not see?
-
What could I have done better?
- Why is this happening?
I Felt So Betrayed…
This self doubt cost me A LOT.
It cost me…
-
My health…
-
Adrenal fatigue…
-
Hormone havoc…
-
Weight gain…
-
Riffs in my marriage…
- My confidence…
And sadly, I could tell you dozens more stories like these. We’ve had Team Members (who we treated like family) lie, steal, threaten us, underdeliver, disappoint... the list goes on.
It was a nightmare…
It was HELL.
Can you relate?
You’re hustling and trying to make your IMPACT in the world… and yet a distraction with your TEAM pops up and can really drag you down emotionally…
Keeping the business afloat is already a lot of PRESSURE.
To not have the SUPPORT from people you’re paying good money to, can be super frustrating.
I Came This Close To Giving Up On The Whole Idea Of Having A Trustworthy, Efficient “Dream Team”
But then I remembered who I AM.
I have a huge calling…
There are clients depending on me…
I don’t have the luxury to sink and hide from the world.
I’ve got to make this work.
So after this “Team Meltdown”...
I rolled up my sleeves… and began to do the work.
I never wanted to be in that situation EVER again!
I started digging through the Business Model… and realized it wasn’t going to get me where I needed to go.
I realized I needed FULL TIME support, but how could I afford to pay US based Employees all the benefits, health insurance, social security, etc?
